Before departure a short break at the “caffene” shop and enjoy a sip of Turkish coffee prepared according to traditions on hot sands.
In the early afternoon we continue to the town of Nessebar. Situated on a small rocky peninsula Nessebar has been a major trading centre attractive to peoples back from the time of the Antiquity. Nessebar has a millennium old history, it has changed hands between Greeks, Byzantines, Turks and Bulgarians and all of them have left their imprint on the aspect of the town. It is one of the 9 sites in Bulgaria, included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The entrance to the old town will greet you with the remnants of the defense fortification system which once encircled the whole town. The road will lead you to the main street bearing the old name of the town – Messambria. In the very beginning of our walk, we would like to invite you in the Archaeological Museum whose rich exposition will enlighten you on the history and the development of this coastal settlement. We shall then follow the meandering cobbled streets which will take us to some of the most interesting sight-seeings of the town – The Church of Christ Pantocrator, The Old Methropolitan Church, The Church St. Joan Alithurgethos, St. Steven, St. Spas and more.
