In the past years the rose harvest has become one of the most important activities in the region of Kazanluk. The Festival of the Roses is one of the most notable Bulgarian holidays, celebrated every first weekend of June when the roses are in their bloom. The Rose festival was first held in 1903, and ever since then has become an international attraction, when the city is glad to host thousands of guests. The festival program includes the crowning of the Rose Queen and the ritual gathering and distilling of roses. There are other celebrations, such as a carnival and the international folk festival “Youth of the Balkans.”

Day 1 - Sofia - Kazanluk

Arrival in Kazanluk in the afternoon and check-in your hotel. Demonstration of folklore costumes from different folklore regions of Bulgaria. Dancing class in traditional Bulgarian folklore dance. Enjoy a festive dinner and attend the official opening of the Rose Festival. Overnight in Kazanluk or the region.

Day 2 - Kazanluk - Take Part in Rose Festival

Early in the morning departure to rose fields in the region of Kazanlak. Attend the rose-picking ritual. You will be greeted according to an old Bulgarian tradition with bread and salt, spend some time in the rose fields when you will have a chance to pick up some rose petals for a keepsake. Visit to a present-day and authentic rose distilleries where you can watch the process of rose distillery and get to know the technology for obtaining the precious rose oil. Durimng the visit you will be treated with rose-made products such as rose liquor, rose rakia (Bulgarian brandy) and rose jam. For lunch we invite you to BBQ with rich folklore program. In the afternoon enjoy wine tasting of awarded wine sorts. Overnight in Kazanluk or the region.

Day 3 - Kazanluk - Carnival procession

Visit of “Tomy Show” cosmetics factory – demonstration of shower gel production process made of rose water. There guests may buy from the factory products on production rates. Free time for museum visits. Take part in the city carnival procession. After lunch depart to your next stop of your program.
