The Day of St. Theodor known as “Horse Easter” is celebrated each first Saturday from the Easter Lent. The legend says that on this day the saint dressed nine mantles and went to God to ask him for summer. Associated with the image of the saint on this day horse racings are held. The horses are decorated with colorful ribbons and tassels. The stadium in Koprivshtitsa on this day turns into a real racetrack.
After having enjoyed the horse races, have a guided tour of Koprivshtitsa museums. Koprivshtitsa is an architectural reserve featured with revival time houses in different colors, cobbled streets, stone bridges. This mountainous town is the birth place of many Bulgarian revolutionaries and poets. You will visit some of their birth-houses, now turned into museums. Koprivshtitsa has been recently nominated to become part of UNESCO non-material heritage for the National Festival of Bulgarian Folklore, which takes place approximately every five years and gathers musicians, dancers and various artists from accross Bulgaria.
