Quite remoted from Sofia, Southeastern Bulgaria is little known but certainly has what to surprise you with. The mystical Eastern Rhodopes hide many secrets and during this trip, we will discover some of them. The road winds along the banks of the Ivaylovgrad dam and reveals stunning views. Our first stop is Villa Armira – a luxurious villa from Roman times with originally preserved floor mosaics - one of the most remarkable monuments from Roman times in Bulgaria. Visit the medieval fortress Mezek from the 11^th c and Mezek Thracian Tomb. The village of Mezek is well known for its own winery and the Mezek brand of Bulgarian wine. On the second day of our trip, we will visit the Thracian temple near the village of Aleksandrovo, as well as a church in the village Uzundzhovo built on the site of an old caravanserai.

Day 1 - Sofia - Villa Armira - Mezek - Ivaylovgrad

Morning departure from Sofia, direction the town of Haskovo. First stop is Villa Armira - a luxury villa from Roman times. It was discovered by chance during excavations works for the construction of a dam. This is one of the most remarkable monuments of culture dating back from Roman times representing a lavishly decorated private home. The complex comprises of a living edifice and adjoining garden for walks and recreation. In the afternoon, we will examine the medieval fortress Mezek and Mezek Tomb. Optional visit to the local winery with wine tasting.

Day 2 - Ivaylovgrad - Uzundzhovo - Alexandrovo - Haskovo - Sofia

Leaving Ivaylovgrad behind, we proceed back to Haskovo. En route, visit the church of Uzundzhovo, built on a site of an old caravanserai. The village of Uzundzhovo was one of the best-known trade fairs in the entire Ottoman Empire. There are written proves that nearly 50 000 visitors and traders gathered on this site during the fair. Proceed to the village of Alexandrovo and visit the Thracian Tomb. Lunch and free time in Haskovo. In the afternoon, drive back to Sofia.
