Explore the jewels of the Rila Mountains – The Seven Rila lakes. This is a group of glacial lakes situated between 2100 and 2500 m above the sea. Each lake is named after the figure it is thought to resemble. The highest of all is Salzata (The Tear”) from where a magnificent view over the whole cirque is revealed. Others are named Okoto (“The Eye”) due to its oval shape; Babreka (“The Kidney”); Bliznaka (“The Twins”), the largest of all; Trilistnika (“The Trefoil”); Ribnoto (“The Fish Lake”) and Dolnoto (“The Lower Lake”). Hardly will anyone remain indifferent to the beauty of this landscape of alternating jagged rocks, deep valleys and small streams. The route is not difficult and may be adjusted according to your shape and level of preparation.
